The Lincoln MKZ is only in its second generation, but rumors are already swirling of the luxury sedan’s forthcoming demise. According to reports, the 2019 Lincoln MKZ could very well be the last as the brand aims to add more crossovers and SUVs to the lineup. While the MKZ may disappear, the name may stick around.
According to a report by Autoline Daily, the 2019 model year may be the last we see of the midsize sedan. The potential cut could come as a result of several production moves, namely the Ford Focus moving to Mexico and the Flat Rock assembly plant being converted into an electric- and autonomous-vehicle center.
While this may be the end for the MKZ nameplate, it may not be the last we see of a midsize sedan on the Lincoln lineup. Lincoln has seen great success with the new Continental, a naming structure that wanders from the alphanumeric.
If one thing is for certain, it’s that the Lincoln MKZ won’t be cut due to slow sales. The MKZ was one of the brand bestselling models in 2016 with over 30,000 sales.
We at Mountaineer Lincoln are excited for the future of such an incredible luxury brand!
